CHOIR DIRECTORS

David Van Wyk

Mr. Van Wyk moved to Katy as a sophomore in high school and graduated from James E. Taylor High School. He studied choral music education at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. While at UH he worked with legendary choral conductors John Rutter and Robert Shaw. While in the group Coro he worked closely with Dr. Betsy Cook Weber as a student conductor. This had a huge hand in shaping his future.  

Mr. Van Wyk is entering his 15th year of teaching, all of which have been at MRHS. His choirs have consistently won best in class, best overall, and earned sweepstakes at UIL. He has led many students through the All-State process with several making the All-State Mixed, Treble, and Men’s choirs.  When not directing choirs he enjoys golfing, camping, hiking, and spending time with his wife, son, three cats, and dog.

Emily Moore

Mrs. Moore is a Katy, Texas native and an alumnus of Cinco Ranch High School. She graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Studies and a Masters in Choral Conducting. During her time at Texas State, she had the honor to work with Dr. Craig Hella Johnson, the founding Artistic Director of Conspirare. In her eight years of teaching, Mrs. Moore’s choirs have consistently earned Sweepstakes ratings at UIL. Mrs. Moore enjoys painting, reading, gardening, and spending time with her husband, two cats and her beautiful daughter.
